This is a rare opportunity to work for an established acoustical engineering firm in an entrepreneurial setting Patching Associates Acoustical Engineering Ltd. has provided acoustical engineering services for over 25 years in the transportation, mining, energy, industrial and architectural sectors. We expanded internationally in 2017, to open an office in Brisbane, Australia.

The Role

The individual will be a member of an international team and work on international projects.
The successful candidate will be essential in establishing local practices, adapting existing measurement and modelling methodologies to suit the local and international acoustic landscape and developing and implementing new measurement, modelling and mitigation techniques. With depth and support from our international technical team, this individual will provide leadership in technical standards and market development, throughout Australia and western Canada.

Role Accountabilities
- Conduct office-based noise modelling, employing software such as CadnaA, SoundPlan, and others.
- Source sound level estimates from measurements and theoretical calculations.
- Develop and refine new and existing field collection and measurement techniques.
- Client report writing, as well as collegial review of the reports of other team members.
- Participate in client meetings.
- Undertake travel to conduct field measurements.
- Grow in capability and responsibility. Occasional international travel for training and development may be offered.
- Act as expert public and policy witness, based on experience and reputation.
- Provide detailed mitigation recommendations to solve client’s noise challenges considering effectiveness, non-acoustic impacts, costs and typical installation requirements.
- Provide custom noise mitigation solutions commensurate with experience and capabilities.
Required skills and experience
- Five to ten (5-10) years of progressive experience in acoustics measurement, modelling.
- University degree or diploma in acoustical engineering or related discipline.
- Registration as CPEng or RPEng
- Superior interpersonal skills. Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Possess the drive to learn, grow and innovate.
- Enjoy technical challenge, fieldwork and detailed design.
- Provide quality control and improvement for on-site measurement and modelling techniques.
- Superior technical report writing capabilities, a focus on understanding the impact of our work on clients and readers is beneficial.
- Strong computer skills in learning, using and integrating new software.
- Knowledge and understanding of automation techniques is an asset.
